Edubot

Edubot

EduBot will be a complete educational product supported by a humanoid robot in order to deliver developmental instruction modules that can teach critical functional skills to children with physical, mental, or developmental disabilities. The product will be based on the well-known NAO robot that has qualities that are extremely well-adapted to the context of special education. Scientific findings report that children respond very well to small and friendly humanoid robots such as NAO, helping and teaching them certain skills, making intervention more accessible. Unfortunately, current NAO solutions are not available to the Greek domain mainly because of the lack in Greek language support and the absence of available schemes and educational games tailored to the Greek psychoeducational needs.

During the project, Greek NAO educational games will be built upon close cooperation with expert therapists to ensure consistent educational quality. Their specific goals will be to help children to improve their socialization skills, develop their ability to manage their own emotions, improve their attention span and pattern recognition skill, all in a Play-Teach-Reward-Repeat fashion for accelerating the improvement rate. Game playlists will be created consisting of the pre-made educational games for three different axes— Ergotherapie, Logotherapy and Physiotherapy. The product platform will offer also the ability of individual and personalized children education. It will log of the children’s particular strengths, needs, and what approaches work or don’t work in their development.

EduBot will not take the place of a therapist, but it will be a novel educational tool and a great supplement to the Greek special education treatment. The proposed teaching assistant platform will represent a step forward to realistic deployment of technology, capable of accelerating and enjoyably teaching children new skills for their day to day life.
